Notables: The Well Sung Heroes Of Songwriting
The popular radio and YouTube feature, "Notables: The Well Sung Heroes Of Songwriting with Robin And The Giant" is now available as a live stage presentation.
The genesis of all music begins with the composer. In the case of songs, defined as words coupled with a melody, it begins with a lyricist as well as a composer. Those two components may be accomplished by one individual writing both words and music, by two people - one writing the lyric and the other writing the melody - or by three or more people collaborating on the song.
The work of these individuals has become an integral part of our daily lives and has been doing so since before sound was recorded. Much of the music from the Tin Pan Alley era and earlier existed only in the written form until, of course, a piano player or other instrumentalist and/or singer performed it.
This history of songs and the people who wrote them is fascinating and inspirational, and often goes untold. Robin And The Giant are changing that. Audiences are enriched by the stories of persistence and success as much as they are motivated and inspired by the music itself.
The rich history of songwriting shows no regard for race, gender, financial status, or age as the songwriters featured in Notables come from all walks of life.
The live program, like the feature heard on radio and seen on YouTube, spotlights songwriters from early America (1600 - 1879), the Tin Pan Alley Years (1880 - 1953), and the so-called "Rock And Roll Era" (1953 - Today).
The focus is the men and women who, throughout history, have been responsible for writing the words and melodies that have become part of the fabric of contemporary life. This live version of Notables expands the mission of educating the public about the contributions of those songwriters.
The musical portion of Notables features guitar/vocal performances of the songs of the showcased songwriters illustrating the genius of the writers and the beauty of their work in its simplest form of words, melodies, and chords. The spoken portion of Notables reveals tidbits of information and little known facts about the authors and composers of the songs that have become embedded in our collective consciousness.
The videos below are from the YouTube hosted Notables channel and will give you an idea of some of the songwriters, and their songs, featured in the live show.
